May 1947Former Toho Bussan was established centering on voluntary members of the former Mitsui & Co.,Ltd., in May 1947, and later joined by 80 more members when Mitusi & Co.,Ltd. was disbanded by the order of GHQ Zaibatsu disbandment in September of that year.
July 19581958, Toho Bussan Kaisha Ltd., a new company was formed centering on the staff who had expertise in the communist block trading. The communist block and other trade of the former was transferred to the new company. The new Toho Bussan started business on July 31,1958, with the paid-up capital of ¥100,000,000. Toho Bussan thereafter expanded its business as follows.
March 1960Inherited Soviet Union and East Europe related business from Daiichi Trading Co., Ltd.
December 1960Head office relocated from Nihombashi, Chuo-ku to Uchisaiwai-cho, Chiyoda-ku.
June 1965Inherited Soviet Union and East Europe related business from Kinoshita Sansho Co., Ltd.
November 1965Transferred a part of Soviet Union and East Europe related business to Mitsui & Co.,Ltd.
March 1968Established the subsidiary company Toho Suisan Co.,Ltd.
August 1970Increased the capital to 400 Million Yen.
January 1972Relocated the head office from Uchisaiwai-cho, Chiyoda-ku to Shimbashi, Minato-ku.

Foodstuff Unit is comprised of "Food Material Div.", "Soybean Div.", "Feed Div.", and "Kyushu Business Div". It mainly handles cereal grains and feed material used in the livestock industry. It mostly handles food related items, and therefore it has defined rigorous internal standards for ensuring high level of safety. Simultaneously, it has formed its own channels for ensuring stable supply.
It is comprised of "First Marine Products Div.", "Second Marine Products Div.", "Agricultural Products Div.", "Overseas Marketing Dept.", and "Retail MD Team". It sources marine products from various foreign countries focusing on the South East Asia mainly, and fresh fruits from America and South Africa, and it imports and sells them in Japan. It provides details instructions and guidance for development, cultivation, and production, and it strives to ensure stable supply.
Rice Unit is comprised of "First Rice Div." and "Second Rice Div.", and it handles both Japanese rice and imported rice. Main business is distribution of rice focusing on polished rice, which is the main product, and import and sale of domestic and imported rice. Besides, for expanding new sales channels and developing the applications of rice, it focuses on exporting Japanese rice, and it ensures stable and continuous supply of Japanese rice.
